This morning 32 people were murdered and dozens more were injured in the deadliest school shooting in the history of the United States. The College Fanatics community would like to express its deepest condolonces to the faimilys of the all affected and the entire Virginia Tech community as many of us pray in our own way. While nothing we say can change the senseless and horiffic events of this morning, we offer our symathy.

The events of this morning should make us all take time to step back and reflect on how lucky we are each and every day. They should also make us all reflect on how the sports that we love and bicker about on this site are so insignificant. Be sure to take the express your feelings to your loved one and I also ask that you say a prayer, remember in your thoughts, or whatever you feel is appropriate for the families of those killed and injured and the Virginia Tech community.

Its the Most Wonderful time of the year. yes Bowl season has returned, and I felt that with this wonderful time back upon us, its as good time as any to Diagnose the Bowls for 2006-2007

San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. yes, apparently someone got bored, and decided, why not call this bowl the poinsettia bowl. and lets sponsor it with a credit agency...BRILLIANT. As for the game, well Army was supposed to be here. But a 3-9 season doesnt put you in a bowl game, So Northern Illinois took their place. Their reward, a Blowout loss to a Nationally ranked TCU squad

Pioneer Purevision Las Vegas Bowl. VIVA Las Vegas, VIVA BYU... Oregon's uniforms werent the only bad thing on the field... their football team is just as bad apparently. BYU dominates from start to finish

So much for Texas repeating as national champions. Not only did The Ohio State University assert themselves as the best team in the nation, they did it in demanding fashion, taking a talented Texas team to the woodshed and beating them in every aspect of the game. Ohio State looks to be in the driver seat for the rest of the season with this win. Not only did the win instill confidence in the players and coaches, it now puts the "wow" factor in the mind of every opposing player that comes along. Texas, on the other hand, should not feel ashamed or feel like their season is lost. They still look to be the best team in the Big Twelve and possibly, with some help, might be able to see Ohio State again in a rematch if the stars align right. Troy Smith is this season's Vince Young and so much for the question marks on the young defense. This OSU team is fun to watch.

Through out all the smack talk, the jobbing, the jabbing and the flat out disrespect, we should all take time out today to reflect on where we are in our lives and how much things have changed in the past five years. When I arrived home today, I wept. I wept for all of those who lost their lives, I wept because someone could do such a terrible thing, I wept because I have a younger brother overseas fighting for me, you and everyone else in this country. Few things in life will ever have the impact of what occured today five years ago, and we should never forget the sacrafice that thousands are currently making to make sure that it does not happen again.

Week one showed the college football world why it is indeed the greatest game on the planet. Texas looks to dominate again with a defense that offers the nations best combination of size and speed. USC simply reloaded again, with new names and the same results. AU perhaps showed the best all around game, with a stifling defense and a running game that is second to no one. But before everyone jumps the gun and starts claiming that their team has the best shot at a national title, let us step back and look at the bigger picture.

Tennessee was the biggest surprise of the first week, dominating a talent Cal team that looked out coached, out manned and plainly put, dominated across the board. Phat Phil and his best friend crony, Dave Cutcliff, are looking to put the magic back into a once glorious program that had one of the best five year runs in college football from 1995-1999. Eric Ainge showed the potential that everyone has been waiting for. On the ground, Montario Hardesty looked like he may be the next great Vol running back. The defense suffocated what may be the best group of running backs in the nation. However, they were playing a Cal team that, while ranked high was lacking a leader at Quarterback and a defense that has never been known as an elite group. Before UT fans get overly excited and start thinking that the days of Manning may have returned, they need to step back and look at what is coming up. A 5-6 season is hard to forget, no matter how much players try to say that is no longer on their minds. It is nearly impossible to get rid of the off field and discipline problems of the likes that the Vols have had the last few years, and in a long season, expect for more of it to happen. The coach is known for losing control and getting flustered easy as of late. Look for the Vols to play well, but until they play an SEC opponent in a tight battle, do not jump the gun on this group. Talented only until proven otherwise in this football fans eyes.

people say we're crazy here in the south, and they're right. we're crazy over guns, fishing, sweet tea with cornbread, and most importantly, college football.. you may ask yourself, why football?? there are many reasons for this, most are simple, while complicated and difficult to explain..

first off there's the obvious, 12 teams. all with equal chances to succeed in the season to come..reguardless of how good or bad they were the year before, the count is 0-0 at week one. someone will be a suprise, and another will be a disappointment. still yet, to get to the root of our "problem" you have to understand what it means to be a southern college football fan..

What exactly constitutes being a true fan? Is it going to every game, dressed up in team colors and driving a car with your school’s paraphernalia covering it from hood to trunk? Or is it the dad who works three jobs and gets off work in time to get home and turn on the TV to watch the game with his children?

This question will never have a definite answer but it is one I think all of us as sports fans should step back and examine. My loyalty to my school was questioned today simply because I questioned a move by the football coaching staff. I am still baffled that the comment was made to me, but I am not shocked in the slightest. The man who questioned my loyalty was not a UGA grad like myself, nor has he ever stepped in the locker room on campus. He is one of those guys who thinks that anything the coaches say is the ultimate word and should not be questioned and if it is questioned, you should immediately be sent to “fan time-out”.
